The List of Don'ts. Try it. It's fun.
If you were advising a newbie about your area of interest, what are the things that you would warn them not to do, not to buy, not to write, not to say, not to -- well, you get the point.
Most of the time, you can draw on your experience. What mistakes did you make?
I like pool. If I was advising someone about this with a Don't List, I would say:
Don't use English until you learn to shoot straight.
Don't use English when you are against a bank.
Don't worry about people staring when you shoot.
Don't be ashamed to practice before you play, even though no one else does.
Don't forget to chalk after every shot.
Don't ever let your stick fall on the floor.
Don't use your stick to gather the balls together at the end of the game.
Don't play with dirty hands.
Don't shoot hard very often.
I could go on and on. Why? Because pool is a passion of mine, and because I have personally made every one of those mistakes. There are plenty more I could list.
Here's a secret: The Don't List is usually easier to make up than any other list. Try it. You'll like it.
